Pendulum/escapement suspension
« on: June 22, 2008, 05:13:04 PM »
I'm designing a Grasshopper based movement and am wondering about suspension - are there wood (or, at least vegetable) alternatives to knife edge for a Grasshopper?  Has anybody used a vegtable substance that will flex without falling apart for a spring-style suspension?  I'm aiming for a large Q-factor and it sounds like knife-edge doesn't really lend itself to that.

I'm trying to keep this as much vegetable, if not wood, as possible - linen lines for the weights, even.  Would it be possible to suspend the escapement/pendulum with pieces of linen?  How do you find the pivot point and how would this be effected by the escapement?

Hi Brian, have you thought about rollers as used by Harrison, Lignum would be a good choice and would be in keeping with your theme, regards Dave
