Title: Excel list - program for gears
Post by: GeorgK on August 10, 2007, 02:41:25 PM
Hello,

I am straight at the beginning of my new hobby. Unfortunately I do not know very well how to make the gear wheels. Did someone already draw gear wheels, did some Excel calculations or has written a program with that is possible to produce gears?

I would like to get dxf-files for my cnc mill.
Thank you

Georg

You may want to look into a program like this.  I have no knowledge of its functionality, however it appears to offer at a modest price the features you want.

Involute and Cycloidal
Gear-Wheel GCode Generator

*This design solution from Graham Baxter easily designs the tooth form.
    * Handles BOTH internal and external spur gear designs.
    * No need to create gears in CAD then export to a GCode Generator. Saves time!
    * Creates a tool path file for a CNC mill.
    * Makes a DXF file for verification.
    * Output is in standard GCode format and without modification is read by standard viewers.
    * priced at only US $49.00.

Thank you very much for your answer.  I am looking for a program where I can see the parameters.

Greetings

Georg

Try this.  Build a spreadsheet with the factors:

I've combined the clock math spreadsheet from Gary's wooden clocks
http://www.pathcom.com/~u1068740/clock-gear-calculations-excel.zip
With that module calculations sheet (Posted originally by JR I believe)
For me that give a nice single point of reference for a large part of the calculations in gear train.

I also have that gear generator listed.  If you build the spreadsheet like we're talking about, you can take the module it calculates and punch it into the gear generator.  The generator will then recompute the other variables and you can compare.  The combination of all the tools has really helped my understanding of what people are talking about.  For the longest time, all the different diameter measurements was stumping me.  And yes, it gives me a shortcut to the gear profiles without drawing the tooth profiles independently.  I've pulled the generated DXF file into autocad to draw out the internal spoke designs.

There's another gear calculator spreadsheet floating around here as well.  I've got it marked as GearCreate6_20030505.zip  It will generate the G-code for cutting the gears.  I haven't tried it out yet, since I don't have my CNC finished yet.

Two different offerings regarding you question.  I'm not sure these will fill the request.
download the trial and look at section 6 ,7 and 19 will draw gears with dxf-output --lastest ver is 1.15

Geometric design and strength check of spur gear with straight and helical toothing. Application is developed in MS
Excel, is multi-language and supports Imperial and Metric units and solves the following main tasks:
- Calculation of helical and straight toothing (external).
- Automatic design of a transmission with the minimum number of input requirements.
- Design for entered coefficients of safety (static, dynamic).
- Calculation of complete geometric parameters (including corrected toothing).
- Optimization of toothing by use of proper correction (balancing specific slips, miminizing specific slips, strength...).
- Calculation of strength parameters, safety check.
- Design of gearing for exact axis distance.
- Supplementary calculations (calculation of parameters of the existing gear, temperature rise, design of shafts,
check dimensions).
- Support of 2D and 3D CAD systems.
- Drawings of an accurate tooth shape including data (X,Y coordinates).
- Support of 2D CAD (AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, IntelliCAD, Ashlar Graphite, TurboCAD) and 3D CAD in full
calculation package (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Pro/E). The calculations use procedures,
algorithms and data from
standards ANSI, ISO, DIN, BS and specialized literature. Used standards: ISO 6336, ISO 1328, DIN 3990, ANSI
