Bandsaw or scroll saw?

(1/1)

Gasmansteve:
Hi all
I notice a few videos on youtube in particular Adrians where he uses the bandsaw for cutting the teeth on his wheels. I`ve just tried it on my bandsaw admittedly with a 4tpi blade and got quite a lot of tear out at the back maybe it would be better with a finer blade or maybe you`ll always get tearout with a bandsaw ??. I seem to be doing ok with my scrollsaw but wonder if I`m missing something  :)
Regards
Steve

4tpi sounds like a problem.  Common wisdom says that you should always have at least 3 teeth in contact at all times.  This gives plenty of space for sawdust removal at a high feed rate.

Considering that you are trying for accuracy instead of a high feed rate, I would try a much higher tpi, possibly 14-18.  A sacrificial backing board would be a good idea also.

I would be just guessing  that you have a Delta P20:40860
Look at Ric's web site

On the left side are topics covered for various saws.  I'm sure that he could direct you for information.
